Taylor Swift has spoken out after being pulled into the escalating legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Although she isn’t involved in the legal issues or the movie It Ends With Us, Swift‘s representatives have condemned attempts to use her name for publicity.
Swift, whose track “My Tears Ricochet” features in the film’s soundtrack, has received a request for evidence from Baldoni‘s legal team. However, her representatives claim this request is unfounded and merely a publicity stunt.
“Taylor Swift never visited the film set,” a spokesperson declared.
According to her team, Swift had no influence over any casting or creative processes, did not score the film, and viewed It Ends With Us only weeks post-release while on her record-breaking tour.
They assert that the only connection Swift has with the film is the licensing of her 2020 song, one of 20 featured tracks, arguing that the subpoena is more about creating headlines than relevant information.
Hollywood in Focus Amid Growing Legal Tensions
The subpoena coincides with a contentious lawsuit between Blake Lively and director/star Justin Baldoni.
Lively initiated legal action in December, claiming that Baldoni sexually harassed her on set and fostered a hostile work environment. She alleged that he also attempted to undermine her reputation through a smear campaign.
In retaliation, Baldoni has filed a $400 million countersuit for defamation, stating that the claims have caused severe professional and financial damage.
His legal team has presented over 160 pages of personal communications to bolster their defense.
One message from Lively to Baldoni after a disagreement about the script referred to Swift and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, as her “dragons,” who provide her with protection.
Baldoni‘s team has used this to suggest that Lively was employing celebrity connections covertly, contributing to the subpoena request for Swift.
However, Swift‘s representatives have firmly countered this view, asserting that her name is being exploited for sensationalism.
“This subpoena is meant to turn Taylor Swift‘s name into tabloid fodder,” her spokesperson added.
