When Dave Chappelle suddenly left Tinseltown in the aughts to live in Yellow Springs, it seemed like an incredibly bold move. In fact, many of his industry peers and tabloids thought he was either spending his fortune or excessively falling to the dark side of Hollywood. “There were things that overwhelmed me,” he mused to Time in 2005. “But not in the way that people are saying. I haven’t spent any of the money. All that stuff about partying and taking crack is not true. Why do I live on a farm in Ohio? To support my partying lifestyle?”
So, what is Chappelle’s Ohio farm actually like? According to Velvet Ropes, the pad is pretty modest by celebrity standards, coming in at 3,154 square feet with three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. Another perk of the property? It sits on 39-acre farmland with a “private, gated entrance.” The cost of such an abode? It’s currently estimated to be worth $277,330.
It turns out, Chappelle has emotional ties to Ohio that trace back years. Speaking with Hot 97 in 2017, the comedian dished, “[My dad] got real sick in ’98 so I would drive back and forth … and there were no good hotels [in Ohio], so I bought a house there. And at a certain point, I moved into the house. And when I quit [The Chappelle Show], I moved back into the house.”
