PSG Stars Exit 2025 Club World Cup: A Dramatic Finale

Two PSG stars

On July 5, Paris Saint-Germain triumphed with a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup quarterfinals.

This success secured PSG a place in the semifinals, where they will challenge Real Madrid on July 9 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

However, the joy of victory comes with a downside, as two key players will be unavailable for the remainder of the tournament.

During the match against Bayern, PSG’s Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez both received straight red cards.

Pacho was dismissed in the 83rd minute after a late tackle on Leon Goretzka, while Hernandez was sent off during stoppage time for a reckless challenge on Raphael Guerreiro.

Although a red card typically results in a one-match suspension, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has handed both players a two-match ban due to the severity of their infractions.

Upcoming Challenges for Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup

The suspension means that Pacho and Hernandez will miss out on the Club World Cup final should PSG secure a victory against Real Madrid in the semifinals.

This could pose challenges for PSG head coach Luis Enrique, as he will need to reorganize his defense for the critical upcoming match and potentially for the final as well.

The historical rivalry between PSG and Real Madrid is quite competitive, with the Spanish side achieving five wins and the French team four victories in their 12 encounters, while three matches ended in a draw.
