EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The second finalist for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be determined on Wednesday as UEFA Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain take on La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium.
The victorious team will secure the $30 million prize and a place in Sunday’s final, while the runner-up will depart with a full wallet, but no cause for celebration.
Both sides will be without crucial defenders; William Pacho and Dean Huijsen are suspended for the semifinals after receiving red cards in the previous round.
The winner will face Chelsea in the final after Joao Pedro scored twice against his old team, sending the Blues to the championship match.

1 hour 45 mins until kickoff: Young Raul Asencio, who has recently fallen out of favor with Xabi Alonso following the addition of Dean Huijsen, is expected to start due to Huijsen’s suspension.
Although Spanish media suggests Alonso’s lineup is a back three featuring Aurelien Tchouameni as the third center-back, it is actually structured as a diamond in midfield, with Tchouameni frequently advancing into an offensive role. Currently, his contributions resemble that of a midfielder more than a defender.
Asencio is showing a willingness to take risks, which can be viewed positively, but mistakes made today could carry significant consequences against such esteemed competition.
Raúl Asencio on his penalty foul: “It was quite challenging, and I didn’t anticipate beginning this way… everyone has been supportive. This is football. If you don’t take part, you won’t encounter mistakes. I strive to avoid errors, but when they occur, I learn from them.” pic.twitter.com/BIDoWRg1Xg

Team news and lineups for PSG vs. Real Madrid
PSG will be without young defender Willian Pacho, who received a red card for a dangerous tackle on Leon Goretzka during the match against Bayern Munich. This absence is significant for PSG, as his exceptional recovery skills support their high pressing strategy. Additionally, Lucas Hernandez is also sidelined after accumulating a red card in the same game.
Star forward Ousmane Dembele has made a comeback from a thigh injury with two substitute appearances and even scored in the recent encounter against Bayern Munich. Though currently overshadowed by Bradley Barcola, Dembele’s return to form suggests he may reclaim his position if Barcola continues to underperform.
PSG will be utilizing their typical lineup for the match after navigating through the season without significant issues. The reigning Champions League champions are in optimal condition, having dominated throughout the season. As we reach the semifinals, all yellow card counts reset.
Projected PSG lineup (4-3-3): Donnarumma (GK) — Hakimi, Marquinhos, Beraldo, Mendes — Neves, Vitinha, F. Ruiz — Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.
Available PSG substitutes: (Lineups to be announced one hour prior to kickoff)
Newly acquired defender Dean Huijsen, who has excelled since joining Real Madrid from Bournemouth, received a red card during stoppage time for a last-man foul against Borussia Dortmund. Consequently, he will miss the PSG fixture. Raul Asencio or Aurelien Tchouameni is expected to fill his spot in defense.
Kylian Mbappe has recently been on the bench for the last two fixtures, allowing young talent Gonzalo Garcia to shine in his absence, netting goals in both knockout games.
Endrick has finally joined Real Madrid for the Club World Cup and is back in training following a hamstring injury, but he wasn’t included in the Round of 16 roster. Raul Asencio, who served a one-match suspension for a red card against Pachuca, is available but may not have the coach Xabi Alonso’s full confidence after being left on the bench against Juventus.
Dani Carvajal, Eduardo Camavinga, David Alaba, and Ferland Mendy remain out due to long-term injuries.
Projected Real Madrid lineup (4-4-2 diamond): Courtois (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Rudiger, Asensio, F. Garcia — Tchouameni — Valverde, Guler — Bellingham — Vinicius Jr, G. Garcia.
Real Madrid substitutes: (Lineups to be announced one hour prior to kickoff)
