50 Cent is moving forward with plans to produce Pop Smoke’s album.
Earlier in the week, the hip-hop mogul announced that he was going to finish the late rapper’s album as executive producer. Now he’s sharing more details including a release date. According to 50, the posthumous project from the 20-year-old Brooklyn MC will arrive in May.
“set for release in May,” he told his Instagram followers.
He has been recruiting big names on social media including Post Malone. “oh yeah @postmalone i’m gonna hit ya phone, i need you on this,” said 50.
Post joins a growing list of potential features for Pop Smoke’s album, which he was working on prior to his death. 50 has also put out the call for Drake, Chris Brown, and Roddy Ricch, who said he was on board. “Say less,” responded “The Box” rapper.
50 has vowed to finish the album and keep Pop’s legacy alive. “I’m looking at everything through a different lens, everybody i call ain’t coming but i’m doing what i have to do to make it hot. i don’t like a lot of you weak ass n!ggas but i likes pop smoke,” said 50.
Pop Smoke was shot and killed after four men broke into his Hollywood Hills home on Feb. 19. The investigation into his murder is ongoing. It’s unclear if he was the victim of a random robbery or if he was targeted.
Last month, Pop Smoke released his mixtape Meet the Woo 2 featuring the hit “Dior,” and was also working on a joint mixtape with Quavo called Huncho Woo prior to his death.
