After nabbing roles on Crossing Lines and Red Rock, Richard Flood got his big break in the United States in 2017, when he nabbed the role of Ford Kellogg in Showtime’s Shameless. First appearing in Season 8, the Dublin native’s character was an “Irish finishing carpenter and craftsman, lesbian sperm-donor to many, and a reluctant Fiona’s (Emmy Rossum) boyfriend,” per Deadline. Flood must have done a phenomenal job in that, um, interesting role because he was promoted to series regular in Season 9. The actor was “delighted.”
He landed the gig on Grey’s Anatomy in 2019, debuting as Dr. Cormac “McWidow” Hayes in Season 16 of the ABC series. Considering McWidow took over Alex Karev’s (Justin Chambers) position as head of Pediatric Surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, it’s possible he’ll be around for a while. Let’s just hope Flood doesn’t get on show creator Shonda Rhimes’ bad said because she has a reputation for ruining careers.
