9ice and Ruggedman shocked Nigerians over the weekend after they came out with a new song titled Religion.
The two artistes had first collaborated on Ruggedman’s track, RuggedyBaba in 2009 in which Ruggedman rapped passionately on the essence of rapping and singing in pidgin English as well as in the various mother tongues.
In 2010, the rumour mill was agog with the story that Ruggedman had an affair with 9ice’s ex-wife, Toni Payne.
As if to confirm the rumour, 9ice released a controversial single titled Once Bitten and tongues wagged and rumour claimed 9ice sang about his marriage in the song. Many were quick to say 9ice was referring to Ruggedman as the man he said he caught sleeping with his lover.
To make matters worse, it was almost after the release of the controversial song that 9ice ended his marriage with Toni Payne. And to rub it in 9ice refused to debunk the rumour even when their close friends urged him to thus giving credence to the insinuations.
However, six years later, 9ice apologised to Ruggedman. And the two frontline Nigerian hip hop musicians with the release of the joint single seemed to have effectively put the past behind them.
