Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman will feature plenty of villains unleashing hell in Gotham. One of them will be Colin Farrell’s Penguin, who will lock horns again with The Dark Knight on the big screen for the first time since Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. In a recent interview with GMA News Online, Farrell revealed that he loved Burton’s movie, perhaps meaning that he loved also the director’s take on the villain.

“Tim Burton’s Batman was kind of my, no, I watched the Adam West TV show growing up actually as well,” he confessed. “So Batman as a kid, yes very much, not in comic book form but the TV show I watched ardently when I was a child. And then in my teens I saw Burton’s version and loved it.”

Farrell previously portrayed an over-the-top supervillain as Bullseye in 2003’s Daredevil. And he came close to playing Batman around 2001 in Wolfgang Petersen’s unmade Batman/Superman movie.

The actor went on to add a few details about his upcoming role, confessing that he won’t have that much time on-screen.

“I had only started it and I can’t wait to get back,” he said. “The creation of it, the aesthetic of the character, has been fun and I really am so excited to get back and explore it. And I haven’t got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it by any means. But there are a couple of some tasty scenes I have in it and my creation and I can’t wait to get back. Yeah, I totally feel like it is something that I have not had the opportunity to explore before. It feels original and fun. But I am only at the start of the journey so I can’t wait to get back and really get into it.”

The British government has recently given the green light for film productions to restart shooting. Expect the Dark Knight’s next film to resume soon. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is set to open in theaters on October 1, 2021.
