Although Elizabeth Olsen made brief appearances in Full House and How the West Was Fun before the age of 10, the actress stepped away from the business. As Elizabeth told The Guardian, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s success made her more determined to study because, while she wanted to be an actor, she also didn’t want to start working when she was under 18.
“My parents made me write down a pros and cons list. And the cons just piled up. So I figured I’d keep acting as a hobby until I was older,” she said. “Because I felt that pressure, and that people would say, ‘Oh, that’s nepotism.’ I decided that as long as I felt confident and worked hard for it, instead of having it handed to me, no one could take that away from me. I don’t have any insecurity about it. I never got any job because of my sisters. I could have pulled a few strings through them, but I never needed to.”
Elizabeth’s critically acclaimed breakout role in 2011’s Martha Marcy May Marlene launched her straight to A-list status, and in the years since, she’s joined the incomparable Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Scarlet Witch. While Elizabeth thinks her sisters are “brilliant women,” she has managed to establish an impressive career on her own merits in less than a decade — and we can’t wait to see what’s next for this talented star!
