Since discovering that the UK’s Conservative government may have been involved in phone hacking, Hugh Grant has been a vocal critic of the establishment. In 2019, he took to Twitter to express his disdain for then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson, calling him an “over-promoted rubber bath toy.” After Johnson was finally removed from office in 2022, Grant celebrated the news and devised a plan to troll the press. He asked anti-Tory activist Steve Bray to play the Benny Hill theme song outside Parliament, which Bray happily did. The tune was then heard during news reports covering Johnson’s resignation.
