Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway are joining forces for the upcoming A24 movie “Mother Mary,” written and directed by David Lowery. The film will explore the relationship between a fictional pop star (Hathaway) and an iconic fashion designer (Coel), with original songs written and produced by Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX. Hathaway is no stranger to singing, having won an Oscar for her role in “Les Misérables” in 2013. Coel has recently appeared in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and is set to star in the Amazon series “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” alongside Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. She also won an Emmy for her series “I May Destroy You,” which she wrote, starred in, and codirected some episodes for. Lowery’s past works include “The Green Knight,” “A Ghost Story,” and “Pete’s Dragon.” Filming for “Mother Mary” will take place in Germany, and a release date has yet to be announced.
