On Friday, a Nigerian soldier in Niger State caused a stir when he killed three Beninois in the Babana area of Borgu Local Government Area. Alhaji Suleiman Yarima, the chairman of the LGA, confirmed the incident and urged the people of Babana to stay calm. He also assured them that the law would take its course.
Audu Alkali, a resident of the area, said that the three people were killed while returning from market after an argument with the soldier. Yarima stated that a delegation had been sent to the people of Niganji in Benin Republic to console the family of those killed and that an investigation into what led to the killing was underway. He appealed to the people not to take matters into their own hands. When contacted, the PPRO Niger State Police Command DSP Abiodun Wasiu said he was not in a position to comment on military issues.
