A man in Nigeria who pretended to be an army recruitment officer has been captured in Taraba State.

The detention was disclosed in a statement released to the press on Sunday in Jalingo by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commandant of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE, OPWS.

He mentioned that the individual was trying to deceive potential soldiers.

The arrest was triggered when the Commandant visited the recruitment center situated at 114 Battalion, in Jimilari village of Lau local government council of the state.

Emphasizing a fair and transparent recruitment process for the candidates, the fraudster was apprehended on 22 June, 2024, while attempting to extort money from applicants, falsely guaranteeing them admission into the Nigerian Army.

“Our recruitment will be solely based on merit, and any fraudulent behavior will not be tolerated,” he stated.

He cautioned applicants against offering money to individuals who promise them success in the recruitment screening.

General Uwa applauded the troops for their vigilance in capturing the imposter, stressing that maintaining the integrity of the recruitment procedure is a key priority for the Army.

The Commandant assured that the arrested individual would be transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and legal action, urging all candidates and the public to report any suspicious activities related to the recruitment process.
