Police Remove Local Guards from Emir’s Palace, Assume Security Control

Police Dislodge Local Guards Protecting Sanusi Take Over Emirs Palace (via Primetweets)

The Kano State Police Command took charge of security at the Emir of Kano’s main palace by displacing local guards who had been protecting Muhammadu Sanusi II, as reported by Premium Times. The guards, known as ‘Yan Tauri’, were a group of hunters from various parts of the state who had been stationed at the palace. The intervention by the police followed speculation that government authorities were considering relocating Aminu Ado-Bayero amidst the ongoing dispute over the emirship. Ado-Bayero, who was earlier deposed by the state government, is currently under the protection of federal security operatives at the Nasarawa mini palace.

According to sources at the palace, the hunters have been dismissed. A police officer present at the scene remarked, “Do you need me to confirm that the hunters are no longer here? Their absence is evident; they have all left the premises.”

Local residents in the vicinity revealed that the hunters departed from the palace sometime between Saturday and Sunday morning, following a court ruling that annulled Sanusi’s reappointment as the emir on Thursday. A resident stated, “Some of them even left their weapons behind to avoid detection after being instructed to vacate the palace or face the consequences from the security personnel.”
