Chief Magistrate in Kano Suspended for Unlawful Money Transfer

Court

A chief magistrate in Kano, Talatu Makama, has been suspended by the Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for authorizing the transfer of funds from a frozen bank account into her personal account in an unlawful act.

The commission also took action against another magistrate and a registrar, Abdu Nasir, for allegedly receiving official payments through personal bank accounts. The suspension was announced by the JSC spokesperson, Baba Jibo-Ibrahim, in a statement issued in Kano on Monday.

The JSC disclosed that following an investigation into petitions against Chief Magistrate Talatu Makama, the commission found her actions to be gross misconduct and in violation of ethical standards.

As a result, Makama has been removed from her judicial duties immediately.

Additionally, another magistrate, Rabi Abdulkadir, was suspended for one year due to judicial recklessness in handling a case.

The commission also sanctioned Senior Registrar Abdu Nasir for receiving court fees in a personal account, an act considered as serious misconduct.

In its efforts to maintain the integrity and accountability of the judicial system, the JSC emphasized its commitment to upholding high standards of judicial conduct and ensuring public confidence in the legal system.
