Rahmat Abdulateef, a 32-year-old woman, was detained by an Abeokuta Magistrates Court on Friday.
The lady was taken into custody on charges of faking her own kidnapping to extort money from her spouse.
The defendant, who did not enter a plea, was charged with self-kidnapping.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Adekunle Opayemi, informed the court that the woman committed the offense on June 20 around 2:42 p.m. on Elite Road in Abeokuta.
Opayemi explained that the woman orchestrated her own kidnapping to pressure her husband, Mr. Ogunbummi Lateef, into giving her money.
The prosecutor stated that the act violated section 27 of the Ogun State Law of 2016, which prohibits forced occupation of properties, armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and other violent offenses.
The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O Odumosun, ordered the woman to be held in custody for 60 days pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
The case was adjourned until September 19 for further proceedings.
