A Nigerian hotelier named Malachy Chukwu from Anambra State tragically took his life after discovering that his hotel had been demolished by youths from Ifite-Nteje community in Oyi Local Government Area.
Members of the Divine Heaven Amalgamated Landlords Association in Ifite-Nteje protested against the destruction of their properties, including the multi-billion naira hotel situated on Chinua Achebe Airport Road.
They appealed for Governor Charles Soludo’s intervention to prevent further chaos.
The association’s Secretary, Mr Nwako Maduka, confirmed that all necessary dues were paid for the land, and the documents were signed by those now attempting to revoke the sale.
The Chairman of the Ifite-Nteje land management committee highlighted the confusion caused by individuals attempting to sell the same land multiple times to make a profit.
Contradicting allegations were made by the Secretary of the Ifite-Nteje land management committee, Mr Ngoesina Okechukwu, asserting that the estate developers followed the correct procedure in acquiring the land.
Reports indicated that approximately 70 associations had acquired portions of the land, with many buildings demolished during various stages of construction.
