The inauguration of the Governing Councils of various Federal universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions is scheduled to take place on July 4, 2024.

Prof. Aisha Maikudi, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, announced this during her acceptance speech on Monday when she assumed office at the institution.

A total of 560 individuals have been appointed to serve on the governing councils and boards of various Federal Government-owned tertiary institutions.

President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the reconstitution of the Governing Councils and Boards of federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

In a recent statement, Nnamdi Mbaeri, the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, highlighted that the approval aims to ensure the effective management of Nigerian tertiary institutions nationwide.

Key Appointments:

  • University of Ibadan: Chief Bisi Akande appointed as Chairman of the governing council.
  • University of Lagos: Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) appointed as Chairman of the governing council.
  • National Open University: Isa Yuguda appointed as head of the governing council.
  • Obafemi Awolowo University: Siyan Oyeweso appointed to head the governing council.
  • Other appointments include Adebayo Shittu, Muiz Banire, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa as chairpersons of governing boards for specific institutions.

These appointments reflect a diverse set of individuals entrusted with overseeing the direction and governance of various educational institutions.
