A tragic incident unfolded in Okpare Olomu Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, where an Anglican Reverend, Isaac Umurie, was reportedly killed by his son, Ufuoma Umurie.

Vanguard learned that the elderly priest was attacked in his sleep and suffered fatal machete blows to his head.

The late Umurie was a well-respected figure at St. John’s Anglican Church, Okpare-Olomu.

According to a member of the vigilante group, the horrific incident occurred around 2 a.m., and miraculously, the mother managed to escape.

Sources revealed that this was not the first time the suspect had targeted his father.

Community members have raised concerns about Ufuoma’s mental well-being.

A disturbing video of the crime scene depicted the suspect using a machete to brutally assault his father while he slept.

Tragically, Umurie lost his life before any help could arrive.

The suspect reportedly also menaced his mother, who narrowly evaded harm as she tried to intervene and save her husband.

“This is the second time Ufuoma is attacking his father. The other time, he beat him, and Okpare-Olomu vigilante held him, but the father pleaded that he should not be taken to the police station. We heard that he is not mentally stable.

“In today’s incident, he hacked the father with a cutlass, burst his skull, and mutilated other parts of his body. The priest has a few years to retire. He was brought closer home because of his retirement before this unfortunate incident,” disclosed a source.

The suspect has been captured and handed over to the authorities at the Otu-Jeremi Divisional Headquarters for legal action.

SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, confirmed the tragic event in a brief text message when approached for comment.
