A 23-year-old man, known as Samson, has been apprehended by the Delta State Police Command for fatally stabbing his mother in the Obiaruku area of the state.
Samson had been sent to Asaba, the state capital, to learn a trade after completing his secondary education. However, he was promptly returned home after getting involved with a group of boys linked to drugs, which had a detrimental effect on his mental health. His mother then took him to a local mental health facility for treatment.
Reports indicate that Samson stabbed his mother to death with a knife around 5 am while she was confronting him about smoking. An eyewitness who spoke to Vanguard described the incident, stating, “They live on Jehovah Street, Obiedike near my shop. The mother, in her 50s, encountered her son smoking early in the morning, and after a confrontation, he resorted to violence.
Neighbours revealed that Samson had developed a drug addiction since his return from Asaba and was standing near his mother’s body when the police arrived to take him into custody.
