A 3-storey dilapidated building collapse in Anambra, Nigeria led to the rescue of more than 200 people, including students from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) Awka, by the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA).

Prior to the incident, the ACTDA’s development control unit had evacuated all occupants from the building. The Agency’s Deputy Commandant, Henry Uchechukwu Nabolisa, attributed the collapse to the presence of multiple soakaways surrounding the structure.

Nabolisa emphasized the importance of reporting any signs of collapse promptly to the authorities. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported in this incident. Officials from various agencies and the rescued individuals were present at the collapse site.

In response to the situation, the ACTDA also sealed off a nearby cracked two-storey building named Golden Lodge to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring.
