Exploring the Nightlife of Cuc Phuong: Witnessing Fireflies and Wildlife Tours

Discover the nightlife of Cuc Phuong: Fireflies and wildlife tours begin

As summer approaches, the Cuc Phuong National Park in Vietnam bursts with natural splendor. By day, visitors can admire an array of white butterflies dancing in the air and hike through the cool, ancient forest. At night, the park undergoes a magical transformation as shining fireflies illuminate the dense woodland.

Starting from May 4th, the park offers an electric car tour which takes guests on a 5-kilometer journey through the forest to witness the captivating fireflies and explore the nocturnal activities of the wildlife. The tour presents opportunities to encounter animals like deer, civets, wildcats, otters, and lorises.

Lasting approximately 1.5 hours, the tour runs daily from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Commencing from the Children’s Experience and Creativity Area, visitors are led by a park guide along a forest trail, immersing themselves in the enchanting spectacle of millions of flickering fireflies. Along the way, the guide’s flashlight may unveil glimpses of spotted deer, sambar deer, and various insects.

The nighttime itinerary of the tour is perfect for observing and learning about rare nocturnal creatures such as pangolins, civets, binturongs, wildcats, otters, and lorises.

Pham Kien Cuong, Director of the Environmental Education and Services Center at Cuc Phuong National Park, shared with VietNamNet that within a day of announcing the tour, thousands of inquiries flooded in from enthusiastic visitors wanting to participate.

Mr. Kien Cuong mentioned, “On the inaugural tour day, we had 20 groups totaling nearly 100 participants. To maintain quality and minimize the environmental impact on the park’s wildlife, each tour is limited to around 100 visitors.”

The Environmental Education and Services Center advises visitors to equip themselves with essentials like long-sleeved attire, insect repellent, and optional items such as binoculars and cameras for easier observation and capturing of special moments.

Established in 1962, Cuc Phuong National Park stands as Vietnam’s oldest national park, situated across the Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh, and Thanh Hoa provinces, covering an expanse of 22,408 hectares. The park is renowned for its diverse flora and fauna, breathtaking landscapes, and rich cultural heritage.
