SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, has cautioned Nigerians against using covered vehicle number plates without proper authorization from the Nigeria Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
Hundeyin emphasized that ignorance is not a valid excuse under the law. Some people cover their number plates for security reasons or as a status symbol.
In a statement posted on X, Hundeyin highlighted that illegal covering of vehicle plate numbers can result in fines or prison sentences upon conviction.
He expressed, “Covering of number plates goes against the National Road Traffic Regulations. Conviction for this offense can lead to fines or jail time. Remember, ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Prevention is better than cure!”
