President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerian youths to delay their scheduled nationwide protest against hardship and hunger.

The protest was set to take place from August 1-10.

Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, made this announcement to State House correspondents after a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa.

The Minister highlighted that the President is paying attention to the concerns of young Nigerians and is actively working to address their issues.

“We also discussed the issue of the country generally, and Mr. President has instructed me to inform Nigerians again that he hears them, particularly the young people planning to protest.

“Mr. President hears them; he takes their words seriously and he is working tirelessly to ensure the betterment of the country, not only for now but for the future.

“Regarding the planned protest, Mr. President sees no necessity for it. He requested them to put aside that plan and await the government’s response to all their appeals. He has heard them as I mentioned,” Idris shared.

The Minister pointed out recent advancements as evidence of the government’s dedication to resolving national issues.

These developments include the fast approval of the National Minimum Wage bill by the National Assembly, the distribution of grains and rice to state governments to combat food insecurity, the launch of a student loan program to ensure equal access to higher education irrespective of financial status, and the proposal for a post-NYSC support system for unemployed graduates.

Idris emphasized that these actions align with Tinubu’s wider vision for an all-encompassing government that does not leave anyone behind.

“The core idea is inclusivity. It is a government for all, and the President is committed to guaranteeing that all are carried along in this drive to propel Nigeria towards progress,” the minister stated.
