Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors and a prominent tech billionaire, has refuted claims suggesting that he is contributing $45 million on a monthly basis to support Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
Although he launched a new super PAC to assist the Republican candidate, Musk clarified the misinformation circulating in the media during an interview on his platform, X.
“What’s been reported in the media is simply not true. I am not donating $45 million a month to Trump,” Musk stated firmly.
The initial report by The Wall Street Journal, based on insider sources, caused a stir. Musk confirmed the establishment of America PAC, a super PAC designed to amplify Trump’s campaign through independent expenses like advertisements and operational costs. Unlike conventional political action committees, super PACs have the ability to collect unlimited funds but do not directly fund campaigns.
Several prominent figures from the tech sector, including Ken Howery, Antonio Gracias, Shuan Maguire from Sequoia Capital, and the Winklevoss twins, are among the supporters of America PAC. The management of the PAC is overseen by Joe Lonsdale, a venture capitalist and co-founder of Palantir, with close ties to Musk.
Musk stressed that America PAC is striving to stay impartial and is not associated with the “MAGA” movement, opting for the slogan “Make America Greater” to signify his belief in core American values.
Regarding his departure from the Democratic Party, Musk explained that his principles, such as meritocracy and limited government intervention, align more closely with the ideals advocated by the Republican Party. He made it clear that his political standpoint does not revolve around a “cult of personality” but rather centers on broader principles.
