The Department of State Services Issues Warning Against Planned Nationwide Protest

DSS Warns Against Nationwide Protest (via Primetweets)

The Department of State Services (DSS) has spoken out against the upcoming nationwide protest, cautioning the organizers against going forward with their plans. The DSS raised concerns over potential criminal elements intending to exploit the protest to instigate unrest in the country. Both the military and police have also discouraged the protest, scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10, in response to the economic challenges faced in the nation.

In a statement released by DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya, the agency labeled the motives driving the protest as politically motivated. Afunanya highlighted that the orchestrators planned to manipulate the protest’s violent outcomes to tarnish the image of governmental bodies at various levels.

The DSS acknowledged the right to peaceful protest but expressed apprehension over undisclosed factions aiming to incite chaos and violence. The agency disclosed that it had identified possible funding sources, sponsors, and allies involved in the protest planning. However, DSS emphasized the usage of non-confrontational approaches and conflict resolution mechanisms to deter the protest organizers from pursuing their contentious agenda.

Addressing potential protesters, Afunanya urged them to reject any acts of disorder and uphold peace. He implored protestors to engage constructively with authorities instead of resorting to violence, emphasizing the destructive repercussions of violent actions on lives, property, and governance stability. The DSS spokesperson emphasized the need for grievances to be channeled through peaceful avenues without causing harm or disruption.

Furthermore, Afunanya called upon all citizens to decline any call to partake in violent activities. He appealed to various sectors of society such as community leaders, youth groups, labor unions, and religious organizations to discourage their members from engaging in the protest. Afunanya emphasized the collective responsibility of all individuals to foster national unity and harmony, diverting from actions that could foster discord and animosity.

The DSS assured its commitment to collaborating with other security entities to uphold peace and deploy necessary measures to ensure the nation’s stability and security.
