Comedians Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney have rejected the offer to host the upcoming Oscars ceremony scheduled for March 2, 2025, as reported by ‘Variety’.
Kimmel, who has hosted the Oscars four times, including the last two editions, declined the offer earlier this summer.
Mulaney, who was involved in the last Oscars ceremony and hosted the ‘Governors Awards’, cited a busy schedule with multiple projects ahead for declining the hosting opportunity.
Presenters with the most appearances at the Oscars
Kimmel holds the fourth spot for most appearances as an Oscars host, sharing the position with Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon, all hosting four times. This rank is followed by Johnny Carson with five appearances, Billy Crystal with nine, and Bob Hope leading with 19.
Mulaney, who hosted the Governors Awards in January and presented at the 96th Oscars, had been a fan favorite to take the hosting reins, according to Variety.
In a June interview with Variety, Bill Kramer, executive director of the American Academy of Motion Pictures, commended Kimmel’s and Mulaney’s contributions to the Oscars. Kramer expressed the Academy’s desire to maintain the celebratory, respectful, humorous, and film-loving atmosphere for future shows.
