Reports confirm that four individuals have lost their lives due to ongoing floods affecting various communities in Bauchi state.
The Director General of Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency, Mas’ud Aliyu, shared this tragic information during an interview with Punch.
He revealed that the four casualties occurred in flood-stricken areas within Shira, Giade, and Katagum Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.
Aliyu stated that these regions have been hit the hardest by the floods, prompting a response from the state government to assess the impacted areas.
He noted significant damage caused by the floods, such as submerged farmlands, destroyed houses, and disrupted livelihoods.
In addition to loss of life, the floods have wrecked infrastructure like bridges and roads, leading to logistical challenges.
Aliyu emphasized the urgent need for residents residing in flood-prone areas to evacuate for their safety.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Katagum Local Government Area, Musa Azare, described the extensive flooding in Sabon Gari and surrounding communities, resulting in widespread displacement.
Furthermore, he mentioned the relief efforts by the state government in providing essential supplies to those affected.
The Chairmen of Shira and Giade Local Government Areas echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the profound devastation caused by the floods and the subsequent displacement of residents.
Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kashim, advised the flood victims to heed warnings from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency and accept their circumstances as part of their fate.
