Arsenal is gearing up for the 2024/25 Premier League season with high hopes of making a title charge.
Manager Mikel Arteta’s team finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the previous season and has been actively strengthening the squad for the upcoming campaign.
One significant addition is the £42 million ($53.5m) acquisition of Italian international Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, who showcased his talent during Serie A’s last season and secured a Champions League qualification spot for his former club.
Calafiori’s versatility in defense is seen as a crucial asset, capable of playing at left-back and central defense, bringing balance and stability to Arsenal’s backline.
Rio Ferdinand, a former Man United player with six Premier League titles, highlighted the importance of a solid defense in winning titles and expressed his confidence in Calafiori’s impact at Arsenal.
In an interview with TNT Sports, Ferdinand mentioned, “I think that area was a slight weakness in the team, he gives them a bit of balance and stability. So I’ll go maybe Arsenal to win it, but there’s got to be a hunger.”
The Premier League campaign kicks off for Arsenal against Wolves on August 17, where Calafiori is expected to make his competitive debut under Arteta’s tactical direction.
