“With aging, two main changes occur – skin laxity resulting in facial sagging and pronounced lines around the nose and mouth, jowls, and sagging neck. Additionally, there is a loss of volume in regions like the temples and mid-face, contributing to a more hollow appearance.

Just like in many situations where there are advantages, there are also drawbacks. Dr. Yapa highlights the potential risks associated with redistributing fat deposits within the body to achieve a more gaunt look.
Typically, fat from the stomach area is selected for transfer, and Dr. Yapa emphasizes the necessity for individuals opting for this procedure to maintain a controlled diet for a sustained period to retain defined facial features.
“A facelift repositions facial tissues to a more youthful state,” Dr. Yapa explained. “Meanwhile, fat harvested from alternative areas such as the stomach or flanks is injected into the face to replenish lost volume.
“However, these fat grafts have characteristics of their original location, maintaining traits of stomach fat when relocated to the face. Therefore, patients are advised that weight gain will be noticeable in their facial features. It is essential to be mindful of the quantity of fat injected into the face to prevent a swollen, immobilized appearance in the mid-face.”
