Deputy Prime Minister acknowledges remarkable revival of tourism industry in Vietnam

Tourism recovery in Vietnam surpasses expectations, says Deputy PM

During a recent National Assembly session, Deputy Prime Minister Long discussed the government’s proactive initiatives that have significantly boosted the tourism sector in Vietnam.

Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, key progress includes the establishment of a Tourism Development Support Fund with 300 billion VND and the accelerated implementation of digital innovations within the tourism industry.

The strategic approach encompasses the diversification and enhancement of tourism services, focusing on island and beach resorts, cultural and heritage tourism, community and rural agricultural tourism, and urban tourism.

This strategy is based on leveraging the distinct natural, climatic, and cultural characteristics of each region, under the principle that each locality offers unique tourism opportunities.

Deputy Prime Minister Long also spotlighted local initiatives that combine OCOP products with cultural and street food experiences, enhancing the overall tourism offerings in cities like Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Binh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, and Can Tho.

“Vietnam’s tourism sector has not just recovered but has flourished, solidifying its position as a pivotal player in our socio-economic framework,” mentioned Deputy Prime Minister Long.

Supported by data, Vietnam welcomed 12.6 million international tourists in 2023, surpassing expectations by 57.5% and generating 672 trillion VND in revenues.

These achievements led to Vietnam being recognized as “Asia’s Leading Destination” for the fifth consecutive year. In 2024, the nation has already witnessed close to 10 million international visitors, with earnings estimated at 513.3 trillion VND.

Moving ahead, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the significance of promoting high-quality growth and enhancing professionalism within the tourism sector, advocating for stronger regional partnerships and the integration of tourism with other economic sectors.

Adhering to global standards, he underlined the critical importance of ensuring green and sustainable tourism development, with a focus on delivering an outstanding tourist experience. The target for 2024 is bold: to attract 18 million international tourists.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Long addressed the substantial progress made in combating illicit practices within the industry. Since the beginning of 2022, there have been over 190,000 market inspections, uncovering 130,000 cases and referring 406 for criminal investigation. Measures to combat smuggling, commercial fraud, and counterfeit goods have been reinforced through stricter enforcement and heightened public awareness.

He also reported on enhancements in executing court judgments related to economic, corruption, and public service offenses, with a noticeable rise in fully executed cases in 2023 and 2024.

In conclusion, Deputy Prime Minister Long reiterated the government’s dedication to diligently implementing the resolutions and directives of the National Assembly, particularly in advancing asset recovery and combating corruption, thus ensuring robust governance and transparency.
