Alisson Becker’s Loyalty to Liverpool and Decision to Reject Saudi Pro League Move

Alisson Becker on Liverpool contract commitment and Saudi Pro League rejection

Alisson Becker, the Liverpool goalkeeper, has expressed his commitment to staying at Anfield despite turning down an offer from the Saudi Pro League.

Several of Alisson’s former teammates from Liverpool, such as Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino, have made the move to the Middle East.

However, Alisson remains dedicated to Liverpool under the management of Arne Slot, as a new chapter begins for the team.

Alisson stated, “I want to honor my contract and continue here or negotiate a new one. I am very happy here, and so is my family,” according to statements reported by BBC Sport.

He added, “I never went as far as discussing salaries and the like. It was just an expression of interest. However, when you hear about the figures other players are receiving, you naturally feel drawn to it.”

Alisson’s current contract with Liverpool runs until 2027, and he has been a key player for the Reds since joining from Serie A team AS Roma in 2018.

His standout performances helped Liverpool secure the UEFA Champions League title in 2019 and their first-ever Premier League trophy in 2020, across 264 appearances for the club.

Rumors suggest that Liverpool is nearing a deal to acquire Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as a potential long-term replacement for Alisson, possibly marking the end of Caoimhin Kelleher’s time at the club.

The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper has served as Alisson’s backup in recent seasons but now aims to secure regular playing time before the EPL transfer window closes on August 30.
