Candra Rogers
An assistant principal named Candra Rogers was left blind in one eye following an incident where a student threw a hanger at her during a school altercation.
The incident occurred at Collins Intermediate School in Corsicana on August 15, 2024, as Rogers intervened in a student conflict. The student first threw chairs at Rogers, which she managed to dodge, and then hurled a hanger that struck her eye, causing severe injury, as reported by WFAA.
Rogers described how the hanger hit her eye, leading to it being knocked out of the socket and causing significant bleeding as she struggled out of the classroom in shock.
The seriousness of the injury prompted paramedics to airlift Rogers to a hospital, where it was determined that she had lost vision in the affected eye, possibly permanently, and may require the eye’s removal if deemed untreatable.
Rogers expressed hope for a miracle to restore her sight while preparing for reconstructive eyelid surgery.
Following the assault, one student was taken into custody, and legal action is expected as the incident has been referred to the appropriate authorities.
The accused student has been prohibited from returning to the school’s premises for security reasons.
Rogers, who had recently joined the Corsicana district, remains unable to specify her return to work as she continues to recover.
In her statement, Rogers emphasized the need for improved safety measures in schools, especially in handling aggressive student behavior.
She criticized the lack of adequate funding in public schools and attributed the challenges faced by educators to governmental decisions, stressing the importance of prioritizing education to avoid detrimental consequences.
