Residents were shocked by the tragic find of a newborn baby’s lifeless body in a gutter at Ekpo Abasi junction by Umo Edem Street in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The infant, wrapped in its placenta and placed in a black leather bag, was abandoned in the gutter.
A passerby stumbled upon the distressing scene on Monday morning, September 2, 2024, and immediately raised an alarm.
“It was a horrific sight. The baby was still in a pool of blood, and it was clear that it had been thrown away like trash,” shared Joy Augustine with CrossRiverWatch.
“I was on my way to get something at a nearby shop when I saw the baby’s body in the gutter. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was a newborn baby, probably not more than a day old,” stated Mrs. Effiom, a resident of Ekpo Abasi.
