An urgent warning has been issued by the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting in anticipation of an approaching storm with destructive winds. The storm is expected to bring wind speeds of up to 201 kilometers per hour and gusts exceeding Category 17.
As of 10 AM, Typhoon Yagi was spotted near Hainan Island, moving westward at a speed of 15-20 kilometers per hour. Its trajectory is projected to bring it closer to the mainland by evening, placing it around 350 kilometers away from Quang Ninh.
Forecasts suggest that by the morning of September 7, Yagi could impact the coastal regions between Quang Ninh and Nam Dinh provinces. Despite a slight weakening, the storm is anticipated to maintain strong winds ranging from Category 12 to 13, with gusts up to Category 15.
– The northwestern East Sea is experiencing intensified winds ranging from Category 11 to 14, particularly near the center of the typhoon.
– By the evening of September 6, the Gulf of Tonkin will face significant sea disruptions with wave heights reaching 3 to 5 meters, escalating as the storm nears.
– Coastal areas from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa are advised to prepare for escalating winds by the night of September 6, potentially reaching Category 9 or higher near the storm center.
– Heavy rainfall is expected across northern regions, with accumulations possibly exceeding 500 millimeters, especially in northeastern areas.
Authorities have cautioned about strong winds, high waves, and potential storm surges along the coast. Residents in vulnerable zones, particularly fishermen and those in low-lying areas, are urged to complete preparations, secure their belongings, and adhere to evacuation directives when issued.
