All 20 teams in the Premier League are set to participate in the 2024/25 Carabao Cup, either having already played or scheduled to play in the next two weeks.
The clubs from the Premier League that are not participating in European competitions entered the tournament in the second round, while the other teams join starting from the third round. These matches are scheduled between September 17 and September 24.
This year’s tournament, which has Liverpool as the reigning champions, was planned a bit earlier, though the final will occur later than in 2024.
Here is the full draw for the third round along with updates on results and a quick summary of the EFL Cup format for the current season.
2024/25 Carabao Cup Format
The EFL Cup, also known as the Carabao Cup due to sponsorship, includes all 92 clubs from England’s top four divisions: Premier League (20 teams), Championship (24 teams), League One (24 teams), and League Two (24 teams).
The 13 Premier League teams not in European cup events entered during the second round, while the remaining eight clubs began in the third round.
- First Round: Aug. 13-14
- Second Round: Aug. 27-28
- Third Round (Round of 32): Sept. 17-24
- Fourth Round (Round of 16): Oct. 30
- Quarterfinals: Dec. 18
- Semifinals: Jan. 8, 2025 (Leg 1), Feb. 5, 2025 (Leg 2)
- Final: March 16, 2025
Each round is a knockout format, except for the semifinals, which consist of two legs. There is no extra time through the quarterfinals, and matches tied after 90 minutes will go straight to penalties.
However, extra time will be implemented for the second leg of the semifinals and the final, if necessary (no away goals rule will apply).
