The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has announced a temporary suspension of flights at Dong Hoi Airport today, September 19, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. This measure is a precautionary response as Typhoon Soulik approaches central Vietnam, ensuring the safety of travelers and staff.
In light of the evolving situation, CAAV has instructed aviation units to activate storm preparedness and emergency protocols as Typhoon Soulik has escalated from a tropical depression earlier today, affecting flight schedules at both northern and central airports.
To maintain safety during the storm’s landfall, CAAV has urged all relevant organizations to closely observe the storm’s trajectory and remain vigilant. This includes enacting the “four-on-site” principle to effectively tackle any emergencies that may arise.
Due to these precautions, all air traffic at Dong Hoi Airport will cease between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. on September 19. Other airports in the storm’s path, such as Da Nang International Airport, Phu Bai International Airport, Chu Lai Airport, and Vinh Airport, are prompted to assess their facilities and communication systems to address any potential issues promptly. This encompasses checks on the safety of airport structures and operations.
Airports will have staff available around the clock to track weather developments and adapt flight plans accordingly to secure safe operations.
CAAV has tasked the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) with conducting safety inspections at impacted airports and managing operational responses during the storm. Air traffic control must keep in constant contact with weather monitoring services and relay important information back to CAAV.
In reaction to the temporary closure of Dong Hoi Airport, airlines are modifying their flight schedules, leading to potential rescheduling or rerouting of services. Airlines are encouraged to keep passengers informed about these changes and ensure that flights headed to the affected areas are equipped with extra fuel to accommodate possible delays or diversions.
Furthermore, authorities in the northern and central regions have been directed to verify storm preparedness at their respective airports, ensuring that all safety protocols are duly enacted in alignment with the “four-on-site” principle.
