The upcoming journey includes attendance at the Future Summit and the 79th United Nations General Assembly, along with an official visit to Cuba from September 21 to 27.
Among the prominent figures in the delegation are key Politburo members: Nguyen Hoa Binh, the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister; Nguyen Trong Nghia, the head of the Central Propaganda Department; Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; and Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security.
Other senior officials include Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, along with Nguyen Duc Hai, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly.
While in the U.S., General Secretary and President To Lam will present important points at the Future Summit and the 79th UN General Assembly, highlighting Vietnam’s commitment to multilateralism and the UN’s role in fostering peace, collaboration, and development. He will also participate in bilateral discussions and various events in New York.
This U.S. visit marks the one-year anniversary of upgrading relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and is part of the preparations for the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2025. To Lam is anticipated to engage in significant discussions with U.S. leaders focusing on the advancement of Vietnam-U.S. relations.
After concluding his activities in the U.S., General Secretary and President To Lam will travel to Cuba for an official state visit, following an invitation from Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez. This visit is particularly notable as both countries celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations.
During his time in Cuba, Mr. To Lam will converse with President Diaz-Canel, meet with Cuban National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and pay a courtesy visit to General Raul Castro Ruz. These discussions are intended to further enhance the historical and strategic ties between the two countries.
