The Nigeria Police Force announced the detention of two political operatives after conducting an overnight operation in various locations across Edo State.

This news was shared by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday, September 21.

Adejobi reported that officers confiscated three locally made handguns and one home-crafted firearm from the arrested individuals. This operation is part of the police’s strategy to reduce electoral violence as the election date approaches.

He stated, “The Nigeria Police Force has made notable progress in tackling election-related violence in Edo State with the apprehension of two political operatives, identified as Edwin Obanor, aged 43, and Audu Tajudeen, a 41-year-old member of the Peoples Democratic Party from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo.”

“Acting on intelligence suggesting that some could instigate violence during the upcoming election on Saturday, police swiftly intervened and arrested Obanor, a gang leader, in Oredo Ward 4 around 9pm, while Tajudeen was taken into custody at Igara Akoko, Edo, just before the elections.”

“Searches revealed that Obanor was in possession of three locally made handguns, while Tajudeen had one craft-made gun.”

“These arrests demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to maintaining public order and ensuring a peaceful election process.”

“The police, along with various security partners, vow to prevent any forms of violence or disruption during the elections in Edo State.”
