Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam Embarks on Historic Visit to Havana

General Secretary and President To Lam arrives in Havana for official visit

The trip is being made at the request of Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, the First Secretary and President of Cuba, along with his partner.

Upon landing, General Secretary and President To Lam, alongside his partner and the Vietnamese entourage, received a warm welcome from key Cuban officials, including Roberto Morales Ojeda, Permanent Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Alvaro Lopez Miera, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas, Minister of the Interior, and Emilio Lozada Garcia, head of the External Relations Department of the Communist Party.

Le Quang Long, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba, along with the embassy staff, were also there to welcome the group.

This visit marks the inaugural official trip to Cuba for General Secretary and President To Lam in his current role. Cuba is one of the first countries he chose to visit after assuming office.

The visit coincides with the upcoming 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations (1960-2025). Over these six decades, the rapport characterized by strong solidarity, extensive collaboration, and mutual assistance has flourished between Vietnam and Cuba across various sectors.

Prior to the visit, Le Hoai Trung, who leads the External Relations Commission of the Party Central Committee, mentioned that the top leaders of both nations would review past successes and collaborative outcomes while outlining new strategies to enhance cooperation in vital areas. These discussions aim to elevate the Vietnam-Cuba relationship into a phase of meaningful and sustainable growth that benefits both countries.

During his stay, General Secretary and President To Lam is expected to meet and discuss with leading figures from Cuba. He will also honor the memory of President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban national hero Jose Marti by laying flowers at their monuments.

Moreover, the delegation plans to explore various economic locations, including enterprises and investment projects backed by Vietnamese firms, while also engaging with local advocates of Vietnam and the youth of both nations.
