Successful Operation by Amotekun Leads to Arrests and Rescues

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, has apprehended two alleged kidnappers and successfully freed four individuals who had been kidnapped on the Owo/Ose highway.

Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander of Amotekun, provided details of the operation at a press conference in Akure on Wednesday. He mentioned that he personally directed the team, which worked alongside local hunters to capture the suspects.

Adeleye also highlighted that these suspects had been troubling both farmers and travelers along the Elegbeka/Ifon road, admitting they had received a ransom of N1.2 million from victims in August.

During the operation, the suspects reportedly engaged Amotekun operatives in a gunfight before being apprehended.

“There was a reported kidnapping the day before our intervention on a well-known road. Our team quickly mobilized with local hunters and searched the forest area where the victims were likely held. By day’s end, we had successfully rescued four individuals,” he noted.

“The operation was particularly vital due to the identification of two of the nabbed suspects. They are confirmed kidnappers now, not just suspected ones,”
he added, referencing testimonies from the freed victims.

“The victims recognized them as the same criminals involved in prior kidnappings in the vicinity. These offenders had been previously arrested but returned to the same area. Now, we have them in custody again.”

During the briefing, details of the criminals’ methods were revealed. One suspect had obstructed part of a roadway with a vehicle to ambush unsuspecting travelers.

Another suspect was recognized as the one who extracted N1.2 million from a family earlier and had attempted to demand N20 million this time before being captured before the money was handed over.

“This arrest conveys a powerful message: there is no refuge for kidnappers in Ondo State going forward,” the Commander stated decisively.

“We are dedicated to ensuring these criminals face justice and that our communities remain secure.”

The four rescued individuals are currently receiving medical care and psychological support to aid in their recovery. The suspects are in custody and will face legal consequences shortly.

With this recent triumph, Ondo State’s security forces reaffirmed their determination to make the state a hostile environment for criminals.

“We want every criminal in Ondo State to understand that there is nowhere for you to hide. We will track you down, and justice will prevail,” the Commander concluded.
