House of Representatives to Investigate EFCC

The House of Representatives has decided to initiate an in-depth inquiry into the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to serious allegations that it accepted ₦15 million from well-known crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky.

According to reports, a social media personality named Martins Otse, also called VeryDarkMan, claimed that Bobrisky did not serve his sentence in a correctional facility after being found guilty of currency abuse, as he allegedly stayed in a private residence instead.

The inquiry was prompted by a motion titled ‘Urgent Need to Investigate Serious Allegations of Corruption against EFCC and Nigerian Correctional Service,’ presented by Hon. Patrick Umoh. The House has agreed to assemble a committee to investigate these claims against the EFCC.

Hon. Umoh’s motion stated, in part:

“The House acknowledges the unsettling reports circulated by Martins Vincent Otse (known as VeryDarkMan) concerning significant law enforcement bodies in Nigeria, namely the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service;”

“It is further noted in the publication that the EFCC allegedly dismissed money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye after receiving ₦15 million;”

“Additionally, it alleges that following his conviction for mishandling and defacing the naira, Bobrisky did not serve his sentence in the Nigerian Correctional Service but rather was housed outside its facilities.”

The motion concluded by “urging the House to create an ad-hoc committee made up of individuals of unquestionable integrity to promptly investigate these allegations and submit a report within three legislative weeks.”
