Everton Set to Thwart Liverpool’s January Pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton ready to block Liverpool

Everton is set to turn down any offers for their defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the upcoming January transfer window, particularly with Liverpool reportedly interested.

Following a groin surgery that sidelined him at the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Branthwaite made his return during Everton’s first league victory of the season against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Manchester United had shown interest in the 22-year-old prior to signing Matthijs de Ligt, while Liverpool is rumored to be formulating a controversial transfer bid.

Arne Slot is eager to strengthen his defense after losing Joel Matip and amid uncertainty surrounding Virgil van Dijk’s future at Liverpool.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton expects more interest in Branthwaite come January and next summer but feels confident in keeping him with their current plans.

The prospective takeover by The Friedkin Group promises to provide Everton with increased stability, aiding their efforts to retain the young talent from their city rivals.

Branthwaite’s Contract and Value

Branthwaite made the move to Everton from Carlisle United in 2020, and his value has significantly increased since then.

His performances alongside James Tarkowski at the end of the 2023/24 season contributed to Everton avoiding relegation, and he almost earned a spot in England’s UEFA Euro 2024 squad after a series of standout displays.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been tracking his progress, but securing his services wouldn’t be easy, given his contract runs until 2027.

United reportedly had two summer bids declined, the most substantial one being around £45 million ($59 million).

Everton is holding out for approximately £70 million ($92 million) to even consider parting with him, which would necessitate a significant change at either Anfield or Old Trafford.
