Umar Iliya Damagum
A request to remove Umar Iliya Damagum from his position as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was rejected by the Katsina State High Court.
The legal action was taken by PDP member Ibrahim Musa, who challenged Damagum’s appointment.
Musa claimed that the process of replacing former National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu was not in accordance with the rules.
He argued that Ayu’s successor should have been selected from the North-Central geopolitical zone, which is Ayu’s home region.
However, Justice Abdullahi Bawa-Faskari ruled against the claim, stating that the issue pertains to the internal mechanisms of the party.
The judge determined that the court lacked the authority to intervene in this matter.
In his decision, he supported the initial objections presented by the first and second defendants, indicating that the case was “not justiciable” since it related entirely to party affairs.
“The issue is not justiciable and lies solely within the internal affairs of the party, hence the court has no jurisdiction,” Justice Bawa-Faskari stated.
