A hippopotamus was killed by fishermen in Yauri, Kebbi State.
Following its death, portions of the animal were shared as meat with local villagers.
According to AIT News, the decision to eliminate the animal was made on Monday, October 7, following an incident where it killed a member of the Emir’s staff. This directive was supported by the State Governor and executed by Emir Zayyanu Abdullahi.
The hunting party, consisting of 40 fishermen, used bows and arrows after a thorough search to find and kill the hippopotamus.
Various videos shared online captured the moment the animal was slain and subsequently transported in a dugout canoe to the District Head of Gungu, Kasimu Aliyu’s Palace, where it was butchered and distributed as meat to the locals.
