The FIFA World Cup’s official Facebook page honored Van Quyet, stating, “Class is permanent,” and showcasing powerful images of the striker in the Vietnam national team’s colors.

Alongside FIFA’s tribute, the ASEAN Football fan page also recognized Van Quyet, sparking admiration from many fans across Southeast Asia regarding his decision as the captain of Hanoi FC.

Reflecting on his retirement, Van Quyet expressed his regret over not achieving victory against India, sharing, “Vietnam’s performance was lacking. I came on in the dying moments and gave it my all. Regardless of my time on the field, I strive to deliver my best, although mistakes happen, especially when playing alongside younger teammates with a new tactical approach.

“I possess experience and aim to score for the national side while also facilitating chances for my teammates. I wished to compete in more significant tournaments, but my physical condition doesn’t permit it any longer.”

Van Quyet admitted he was taken aback by the call-up for the training camp and the opportunity to play in front of fans again. He extended his best wishes to the Vietnamese national squad and their supporters, saying, “I hope the team performs well, and the younger players adjust quickly. I will always support them, irrespective of my role. After 18 years of hard work, I wish for the continued growth of Vietnamese football, with the national team getting stronger.”

Throughout his career with Vietnam, Van Quyet played 60 matches, netting 16 goals. His first international goal was against Macau on June 29, 2011, during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

Hailing from Thach That, Hanoi, he participated in five AFF Cup tournaments (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2022), contributing to the championship victory in 2018 and leading Vietnam’s Olympic team to the semifinals in the 2018 Asian Games.

At the club level, Van Quyet has been instrumental for Hanoi FC, accumulating several V-League titles, National Cup wins, and individual accolades like the Best Player award, the top domestic scorer titles, and two Vietnam Golden Ball trophies.
