Who is Anthony Barry?

Anthony Barry, a former midfielder for teams such as Wrexham, Chester, and Fleetwood, has most recently been serving as assistant to Roberto Martinez for the Portugal national team.

At 38 years old and originally from Liverpool, Barry transitioned to a full-time coaching career in 2017 after ending his playing days. He began as a set-piece coach at Bayern Munich under Tuchel and later joined him at Chelsea after being recruited by Frank Lampard. Barry’s coaching journey kicked off at Wigan Athletic.

He also briefly collaborated with Stephen Kenny in the Republic of Ireland setup, gaining valuable international experience. His familiarity with the international stage and work with elite players like Harry Kane, Mason Mount, and Raheem Sterling will undoubtedly be beneficial for England.

Reflecting on his new role alongside Tuchel, Barry expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to work with the national team: “For any Englishman in football, working with the national team is the pinnacle and I didn’t hesitate when Thomas asked me to come and join him again.
