Netflix has unveiled the teaser trailer for The Electric State, a film that fans have been eagerly awaiting, directed by Marvel’s Joe and Anthony Russo. The movie is set to premiere on March 14, 2025, and is based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag. With talents like Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt in the cast, the Russos aim to present a post-apocalyptic adventure infused with nostalgic 90s elements.
The narrative is set in a retro-inspired 1990s America, where robots and humans once lived together harmoniously. Following a rebellion gone wrong, the robots now reside in a desolate area termed the Exclusion Zone. The story follows Michelle, portrayed by Brown, a teenager on a dangerous quest across a robot-dominated landscape alongside a mysterious robot named Cosmo and Chris Pratt’s character, Keats, a quirky smuggler. Their objective is to locate Michelle’s younger brother, who is linked to the enigmatic Cosmo.
The film is further enriched by a robust voice cast that includes Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, and Giancarlo Esposito. The film’s grim atmosphere is steeped in nostalgia, amplified by a slowed rendition of Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova,” reminiscent of classic Amblin productions. Featuring rusting machines, deserted towns, and illuminated wastelands, The Electric State aspires to merge breathtaking visuals with emotional depth.
