The new trailer and posters for Beyond the Wasteland have been released, giving audiences a glimpse into the gripping universe created by North Macedonian director Vardan Tozija. Initially known as M, this post-apocalyptic thriller centers on a young boy, Marko, navigating a harsh reality devastated by a lethal virus. Rather than following the usual zombie film formula, Beyond the Wasteland explores the psychological and emotional challenges of surviving in a broken world, providing a unique take on the genre.

The narrative follows Marko (played by Matej Sivakov), who grows up in seclusion under the strict care of his father. Cautiously protected from external dangers, Marko’s intrigue about the outside world increases. When a dramatic event forces him to escape, he ventures into a treacherous landscape populated by the infected and the remnants of humanity. The film’s chilling atmosphere is significantly enhanced by strong performances from its cast, including Sashko Kocev, Aleksandar Nicovski, Kamka Tocinovski, Bojana Gregoric Vejzovic, and Verica Nedeska.

With a screenplay co-authored by Vardan Tozija and Darijan Pejovski, the film deepens its narrative, evolving from a standard zombie tale into an emotional examination of human tenacity. Beyond the Wasteland was honored for its exceptional portrayal of its young lead, securing an accolade for “remarkable work with child actors” at the Sofia Film Festival.

Scheduled for release on November 5, 2024, by Well Go USA, this independent film made its debut at the 2023 Cinedays Skopje Film Festival. Its raw portrayal of a post-pandemic world, characterized by themes of isolation and hope, resonates profoundly in our current reality.

With its atmospheric visuals and rich storytelling, it promises to deliver a haunting viewing experience.
