The former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, has dismissed calls for his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “mere noise”.
This announcement was made by the caretaker committee chairman of the PDP, Dare Adeleke, during a report submitted to the PDP’s disciplinary committee, led by Chief Tom Ikimi.
The recommendation for expulsion arises from accusations that Fayose has engaged in activities detrimental to the party, particularly his public support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election campaign.
Even as a PDP member, Fayose has been vocal in endorsing Oyebanji, who belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC), during a recent interview.
Fayose reiterated his backing for Oyebanji at the launch of a local project in Ado Ekiti, exacerbating tensions within the party.
In response to the expulsion recommendation, Fayose expressed nonchalance, asserting that Adeleke does not have the authority to expel him.
His aide, Lere Olayinka, conveyed Fayose’s disregard for the caretaker chairman’s actions, suggesting they hold no weight.
“We will soon find out who truly holds power in Ekiti politics,” he said. “Adeleke’s authority is currently disputed in court, questioning his position as CTC chairman.”
“If someone’s authority is under question, what gives them the power to recommend an expulsion? He makes statements that carry no real consequence.”
Fayose questioned Adeleke’s credibility and noted his previous claims regarding his expulsion from the party.
Adeleke’s recommendation emphasized that Fayose’s “public endorsements of the opposition contradict our party’s values and unity.”
Addressing a press conference, Adeleke stated that Fayose’s actions misrepresent the PDP’s image to the public.
He asserted, “An official disciplinary committee has been established and we believe Fayose should be expelled from the party.”
Adeleke further commented on Fayose’s remarks, suggesting they are simply attempts to appease Oyebanji, calling into question the relationship between the two.
“If Fayose claims Oyebanji visited him frequently, one must wonder what business the governor has with him. It seems his interests are purely self-serving.”
Adeleke criticized the state’s current administration for failing to deliver on infrastructure and other essential services over the past two years.
He remarked, “There is a noticeable absence of development in Ekiti, with essential services deteriorating.”
Adeleke condemned Fayose’s actions and urged him to consider officially joining the opposition if he continues to support it, rather than misleading the party regarding his affiliations.
“Our goal is to strengthen the PDP in Ekiti. Fayose’s behavior undermines our collective progress. Let’s remain focused on our mission to revitalize our party, serving the people with integrity.”
